Fashion: Fashion in USA is actually very similar to fashion in Spain. It’s true that brands are sometimes different in both countries but, at the end, we all dress the same. example, regarding our shoes, both in the States and in Spain we usually wear now, in winter, closed shoes such as Converse (they also have another popular brand for this kind of shoes, Keds), 

Vans and Uggs, which are those big boots everyone wears now and that look like slippers. There they are also very popular for boys the Jordans sneakers, from Michael Jordan. When we were talking Marta and I realized that a very popular American brand here for rain boots, Hunter, it’s not there as popular as we thought it was.

For clothes, their most expensive shops are: Gucci, Channel, BCBGMaxazria, Banana Republic, Victoria Secret, Calvin Klein… by the way, they love ZARA!

Aspects in common:

People, especially boys, also go showing their boxers.

The surfer and skater look is popular also in USA.

Girls like to use just a little make up to go to school too.  

Animals & School

FIRTS TOPIC: ANIMALS.

-Sabine has got one cat and one dog. They get along well also but sometimes they fight. She hates snakes and she likes bears, water animals and lions.

Allie has got two cats and two dogs. She said that they get along well because the cat is like a dog. She hates cockroaches and she likes little animals, when they're babies, but all the animals in general.

SECOND TOPIC: SCHOOL.

-Their school is smaller than our school. They have 126 students and their education is divided into three levels and the last level (high school) is divided  into four grades:

-Elementary school (6 years old-12 years old)

-Junior high (12 years old-14 years old)

-High school (14 years old-18 years old)

-Freshman

-Sophmore

-Junior

-Senior

Sabina and Allie are in High school and are Sophmores. They wear an ugly uniform, their school is very strict and they said that the people in their school are very different. In the school, they can learn spanish and chinese in five levels.

The countries they have visited:

Allie: Allie has visited many different locations such as the Bahamas, Costa Rica, England and in many of the states in USA. such as California, Colorado, Florida, and New York.

Sabina: Sabina has also visited many different countries. Sabina was born in Serbia, and has family there. But she has also visited India, Croatia, Greece and the list goes on. Her father speak a lot of different languages, and so do Sabina, and that is a big help when they travel.

Countries they will visit in the future and why they like to travel:

Allie: In the future Allie wants to visit India, Greece, and Italy. After her 18^th birthday she has plans about backpack around Europe with her mother and a friend. Allie loves traveling because she likes experiencing new cultures, music, food, architecture, and a new way of life.

Sabina: In the future Sabina wants to visit Germany, South America, Australia but the country she prefers the most is China, because she wants to learn the language, with the aim to adopt a little Chinese baby. Sabina likes to travel because she wants to expand her knowledge about different kind of people, languages and cultures.

Conclusion of their way to travel: They both love to travel, but not the travels we see in the magazines or advertisements, where it’s all about the big glamorous hotels surrounded of long white sand beaches, that kind of places full of pale tourists. That’s all a façade that hides the countries actual values, cultures and beauty, and that’s what Allie and Sabine go after, the real and pure essence of the country.  

Sports/ School

We talked about what are our favorite sports are to watch or play.

We mentioned sports like football, basketball, tennis, gymnastic, high-dive, swimming... and we also talked about the most famous athlete in our country.

In the USA they have a lots of  famous basketball players for example : Lebron James or Kobe Bryant, while in Spain we have  lots of well-known athletes such as: Pau Gasol, Rafa Nadal or Fernando Alonso.

This year, we celebrate the most prominent sport´s competition: The Olympic Games. And if we had the opportunity to go to the Olympics, we four would have gone to London.

About school we compared both systems (Rhode Island and Spain) of education. In the USA they have:

Elementary school

1-5 grades (6-12 years)

Middle school

6-8 grades (12-14 years)

Highschool

8-12 grades (14-18 years)

You have to pass an exam call "SAT's" to qualify for Universities.

University / College

(+18 years)

In Spain we have:

Primary school (6-12 years)

Secondary school (12-16 years)

Bachillerato (16-18 years)

And finally you have to pass an exam call "selectividad" to qualify for the university.

Both educational systems are similar but they aren´t  exactly the same. We told to them that our school is very small compared to other schools in Spain. And they answered that in Rhode Island their school is smaller than ours, so Antonio and I where surprised by  that.

At their school, Sabina and Allie can choose two different languages, they can choose spanish or chinese. While in our school we can only choose French as a second language. Something interesting is that, in Spain their favorites subjects are Math and Physics because is the easiest subject to understand in spanish. But,  in the USA they would rather history.

Viajar
